Moldonia - section 4

What is there to see in…..?

Wisteria and Surrounds:

Many tourists start their visit to Moldonia with a stay in the capital city, Wisteria – a day or two could easily be spent here before moving onto attractions further afield. The capital was named after the plant that grows everywhere in the country. Visitors lucky enough to visit in Spring time, will have many opportunities to see the unique Moldonian strain of this plant with its orange leaves and mud coloured flowers growing profusely around the city. Wisteria has never really moved forward with the rest of the world and this is obvious the moment a tourist steps off the plane.

Assaulted by the stench of old cabbage that pervades the city a stranger can wonder why he or she did not go to a Caribbean island for their holiday instead of being talked into Moldonia. However it does not take long till the charm of the country becomes apparent. There is so much of interest in Wisteria and, as already mentioned, it is an easy city for a tourist to explore.

City Sights:

  • The Marshmallow Temple – the most visited of Wisteria's attractions is situated just off the main square. The interior is open only when there is an R in the month on Saturdays and Sundays from 1200 – 1400. However, it is still an interesting place to view from the outside if you happen to visit between May and August. There is no charge for entry either to the grounds or inside.
  • Mould Museum – next to the Temple is a museum showcasing the native art of the Moulds. Unique in that many of the art works incorporate dead animals into them.
  • Botanical Gardens – these are situated on the western edge of the city and are easily reached by train. This is a great place to visit on a Wednesday (the day off for most Moldonians) to observe locals at play. It's also the best place to watch Moldonian Soccer being played – this differs from other forms in that, instead of a ball, the game is played with an unhatched Bustard egg. The game does not last for long.
